Homesickness

 

When I was a little kid,

I played a hide-and-seek,

Thinking that nobody could find me

If I could hide only my face.

 

When I grew up,

I walked in a rainy day,

Thinking that I could avoid getting wet

If I covered only my face with a broken umbrella.

 

Now I am in a faraway country,

Thinking that I can forget my home country,

If I moved only my body away from there,

But leaving my soul there.

망향(望 鄕)

 

어려서 나는

어느 구석에나

얼굴만 처박고 있으면

숨은 것으로 생각하고

숨바꼭질을 했다.

 

커서도

얼굴만 비 안 맞으면

비 안 맞는 줄 알고

망가진 비닐우산을 쓰고

비바람을 피해왔다.

 

지금은

몸만 떠나 있으면

고국을 잊겠노라고

마음은 미처 챙기지 못하고

타국 땅에 와 있다.
